Mass spec position available!

Position: Mass Spec Technician (UBC grade: Research Assistant/Tech 3)

Location: St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada

Application deadline: March 28, 2025 via the UBC Jobs portal (do not email the lab or Dr. DeMarco directly)

The position of mass spectrometry technician is available in the lab of Dr. Mari DeMarco in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia: www.DeMarcoLab.ca

The successful applicant will support innovative projects in the development and application of protein biomarker tests to improve patient care, including research on Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.

Our laboratory specializes in protein mass spectrometry, with particular expertise in targeted MRM methods for protein characterization and quantification. The majority of mass spec analyses are performed on liquid chromatography (UPLC and HPLC) systems coupled to triple quadrupoles. Biological samples may require preparation for analysis on accurate-mass high-resolution mass spectrometers, which are maintained by core proteomics facilities/collaborators. The lab also has a wealth of other cutting-edge analytical technologies beyond mass spectrometry for biomarker analysis, along with relevant instrumentation for sample preparation.

The successful applicant will join a dedicated, experienced, and highly motivated team working to develop and implement new protein-based diagnostic tests in a collaborative clinical environment. This position offers opportunities for professional development, collaboration with industry and academic partners, and contribution to publications in this rapidly evolving field.
